Abstract

In the removal of nitric oxide from hydrogensulphide-containing gases by passing the gas over a metallic sulphide mixed with humous material, or over a naturally occurring humous-containing oxide such as bog iron ore, the complex sulphide-nitric oxide compound formed mixed with the humous material is regenerated by passing air over the mass in a purifier box. Free sulphur is liberated in the latter and the same box is again used for purification of the gas followed by regeneration until sufficient sulphur is accumulated for its recovery.
