Abstract
1,273,738. Purifying combustible gases. LAPORTE INDUSTRIES Ltd. 1 Jan., 1970 [11 Oct., 1968], No. 48195/68. Heading C5E. An absorbent composition for desulphurizing liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons, e.g. natural gas and naphtha, and H 2 -containing gases derived from coal or petroleum, e.g. coke oven gas and water gas, comprises a mixture or combination of zinc oxide and iron oxide in which the iron oxide, calculated as Fe 2 O 3 , amounts to 2 to 20% b.w. of the total. The composition may include a binder, e.g. bentonite, and may be extruded and calcined. Desulphurization may be performed at a temperature in the range 200‹ to 500‹ C. for a contact time of from 0À1 to 100 seconds.
