Abstract

286,255. Rostin, H. March 1, 1927, [Convention date]. Mineral and tar oils, purifying &c.-Oils are hydrogenated and purified by passage with sulphuretted hydrogen over iron, preferably finely divided and freshly reduced. For example, cracked oils or crude benzole are vaporized, mixed with sulphuretted hydrogen, and passed up a vertical tube packed with granulated " Minette " or other iron oxide ore that has been reduced by hydrogen or water gas at 200- 300‹ C. When the iron is converted into sulphide the flow is stopped until the iron and sulphuretted hydrogen are reformed by passage downwards of hydrogen or gases containing it.
