Mineral and tar oils, purifying.-Tars, mineral oils and other materials consisting mainly of high molecular weight aliphatic hydrocarbons are first freed from catalyst poisons and are then treated with water vapour or hydrogen-containing gases in the presence of catalysts, preferably activated hydrogenating catalysts, at a temperature higher than that required for the formation of merely hydrogenated compounds.
