6538. Brincker, C. F. March 24. Wood, staining.- Cheap wood is coloured to imitate ebony by treatment with campeachy extract under steam pressure and then with iron acetate. The wood is dried in a current of air to drive off moisture and acetic acid, and the remaining acid is neutralized by impregnating and heating with soap solution. The wood is again dried and is then treated with shellac in alcohol &c. before polishing.
