Grates; air-supply; blowers; boilers.-A V- shaped fire-grate for kitchen ranges &c., in one construction, Fig. 2, comprises front and rear grids b, c, and a supporting frame d to which is hinged a door or damper e. The back c may be in the form of a comb. In a modification, Fig. 4, a hollow fire - back g is provided, through perforations h in which air passes to the fire. A guard-plate i is preferably provided to prevent coal, ashes, &c. from falling behind the fire-back. In a range provided with a boiler, the latter may be placed behind the hollow back g, in which case the combustion products pass downwards between the fire-back and the boiler ; or the inclined front k<l>, Fig. 5, of the boiler j may form the grate back. In the latter case, the internal flue k of the latter is preferably inclined downwardly towards the back flue n as shown, and may be provided with a damper at its upper end. Some of the combustion products may be caused to pass over the tops of side ovens, down their sides, and back underneath to the flue n.
