Abstract
15,969. Pollard, E. July 28. Slow-combustion stoves; casings; smoke, preventing.-In a closed stove the smoke &c. collecting in the upper part of the combustion-chamber is returned to the ash pit, and the products of combustion are eventually passed along a tortuous course through a casing at the top of the stove. As shown in Fig. 3, the stove comprises a cylindrical casing 1 mounted on a hollow base 2, connected to the upper end of the combustion chamber by flues 8. The upper portion 6 of the casing 1 is hollow and is divided into two chambers by vertical partitions 6<A>, 6<B>. The products of combustion pass into the casing 6 through flues 14, and, dividing into two parts, are guided along a tortuous course to the chimney flue by baffles 6<c>, 6<D>, 6<E>. Air is admitted to the upper portion of the stove and to the return flues 8 through damper-controlled openings, and suitably arranged dampers are provided for controlling the passage of the combustion products to the chimney flue. The grate can be shaken to remove ashes &c. by a lever 23. A regulable quantity of air can be admitted to the chimney flue to check the draught. A mica panel 19 is fitted in the bottom door.
