Abstract

14,336. Dumesnil, P. June 21 Blowpipe burners. - Relates to blowpipes for autogenous, soldering &c., of the type described in Specification No. 12,750, A.D. 1905, [Abridgment Class Furnaces &c.], and consists in regulating the supplies of oxygen, acetylene, &c. by means of narrow cones in the body of the blowpipe, and also in adapting the blowpipe to be used for cutting metals; a device to prevent lighting back and an automatic acetylene generator are also described.. The blowpipe comprises a tubular body 1 with a pipe 2, into which fixed and movable narrow hollow cones 3, 4, respectively, are screwed at opposite ends. Oxygen under pressure is supplied through the fixed hollow cone 3, and induces a flow of acetylene or other combustible gas through the tube 2, the supply being. regulated by the cone 4. In a modification, a solid narrow cone 20 is also provided to regulate the supply of oxygen. In a further modification, a solid cone similar to the cone 20 may be placed in the nozzle connexion 18, and the interchangeable screwed nozzle 19 may regulate the gases. In all cases, to prevent movement after adjustmerit, the cones carry spring or other catches 15 which engage in slots 16 on the tubular body 1 ; or lock-nuts 22 are used.. To adapt the.blowpipe for cutting, a branch tube 23. conveying oxygen and carrying a runner 26 is secured by a ring 24 to the mixing-tube 14. - A jet of oxygen may thus be directed upon the part of the metal heated by the flame, and effect severing by local super-oxidization. The runner 26 may be replaced by a finger 27. The device to prevent lighting back is similar to that described in Specification No. 12,750, A.D. 1905, and is placed in the tube 2, the connexion being detachable to allow this device to be cleaned. It consists of sheets 6 of gauze, between which are tubes 7 covered with asbestos and having bevelled ends.
