Abstract

21,675. H÷veler, H. F. Sept. 30. Spray burners. - A liquid - fuel burner for use with furnaces, boilers, &c. comprises an outer portion, preferably fixed to the furnace, boiler, &c., and composed of two concentric nozzles q, u and a barrel o, in which slides an inner portion composed of two concentric tubes k, band an inner regulating- needle f, the inner portion being held in position by friction only, so that it can be easily removed for cleaning purposes and when it is desired to replace it by a fresh inner portion. Liquid fuel passes to the inner tube b through the tube g, compressed air, gas; or steam being supplied through the tube j to the tube k. Air at atmospheric, pressure enters by way of the chamber s, in which is a regulating-valve t, and passes to the nozzle q which terminates in a tube r. The tube v may constitute the burner support, and through it air, gas, or steam is supplied to the'nozzle u. The construction of the burner allows of the relative adjustment of the various nozzle openings. Guides w, z are provided on the. needle f and the tube b. In the Provisional Specification, which mentions the application of the burner to metallurgical processes, it is stated that the point of the regulating-needle protrudes slightly beyond the liquidfuel nozzle, and that the liquid-fuel nozzle projects beyond the surrounding tube; also, that the needle with its guides may be separately withdrawn from the burner, and that valves are provided on the pipes g, j, v.
