Pressure-regulating valves.-Relates to expansion apparatus for cooling &c. in which a valve is held on its seat by the pressure of the fluid and of a spring capable of regulation, the valve stem being moved in the opposite direction by an exterior force acting through an elastic fluid-tight membrane and a pushpiece. The apparatus is particularly applicable to apparatus such as that described in Specification No. 4734, A.D. 1907, [Abridgment Class Cooling &c.], in which the valve, when operated by electrical or mechanical means, automatically arrests the expansion of the fluid, as, for instance, when the compressor ceases to work. A casing is divided by a partition into two compartments fitted with an inlet pipe 3 and an outlet pipe 4 respectively. The two compartments communicate with each other by means of an opening 5, through which passes a stem 6. The stem 6, which may be hollowed out at the point where it passes through the partition, carries a valve formed by a cup-shaped shoulder 8 containing packing. The valve is pressed by a spring 13 against a rim 10 around the opening 5. The spring 13 bears against the partition and against an adjustable nut 12 on the stem. The stem bears at its upper end against a flexible diaphragm which is secured between the edges of the cover 16 and a diaphragm 17. A pushpiece 18, operated by the core of a solenoid &c., passes through the cover 16 and bears against the diaphragm 17.
