Abstract

7833. Ljungstr÷m, B. Apiil 4,1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Elastic-fluid turbines.-The end thrust tending to separate the disks in radial-flow turbines with oppositely running rotors is balanced by admitting fluid pressure to the backs of the disks and providing the balancing-chambers with baffling-devices to retard leakage. Two oppositely running rotors comprise intermeshing rings of blades a, c' carried by disks j, k mounted upon shafts as shown. The disks may be conical, as shown in the upper part of the Figure, or stepped as shown in the lower part. Detachable plates n are secured to the casing and of the same form as the rotors. B affling- devices are placed between the plates n and the rotor disks j, k; disks are perforated to ensure equal pressure on both sides.
