825,894. Turbines. SVENSKA TURBIN AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNGSTROM. June 24, 1957 [Aug. 30, 1956], No. 19807/57. Class 110 (3). A radial flow elastic fluid turbine comprising blade rings supported by turbine discs one or both of which are formed with passages near their inner periphery for the admission of driving fluid, radial labyrinth packings inserted between stationary and rotary discs and axial packings around the turbine shafts, has nozzles in front of the passages in which the driving fluid expands to reduce the pressure difference to which the packings are subjected and means to start off the admission of driving fluid to individual nozzles or guide blade passages to allow partial governing. An outward flow turbine has oppositely rotating shafts 1, 2 carrying turbine discs 3, 4 supporting blade rings 5, 6. Driving fluid is supplied to the blade system through passages 7 in the turbine disc 3. Labyrinth packing 10 is provided around the shaft 1 and labyrinth packing 11 located between a stationary disc 12 and the turbine disc 3. Driving fluid supplied to the chests 9 is expanded in stationary guide blades or nozzles 14 before entering the passages 7. Turbine blades 15 may be inserted in the passages 7. The blades 15 and the blades of the first two blade rings are of the impulse type. A number of chests 9 supplied by pipes 8 individually controlled by valves are also provided. The turbine need not be contra-rotating. The turbine disc 4 may be stationary.
