Abstract

19,696. Manker, C. A. Sept. 4. Hulls.-The widest portion of the wetted surface of the hull is near the bow A at the point of first contact with the water, and thence diminishes gradually in width towards the stern B, the stern lines continuously diverging outwardly in curves towards the bow. Lateral projecting wings 2, 3 provided at the bow are disposed in a substantially horizontal plane, in order to split the waves and enable the vessel to rise upwardly when meeting waves. The hull is of gradually increasing depth towards the stern and is constructed with a concave under surface. The above-water portion is of cigar shape, and at the stern projects laterally beyond the wedge-shaped lower portion of the hull and forms stability guides 5, which prevent the stern from settling when in motion. The dotted lines in Fig. 1 indicate the position assumed by the vessel when under way.
