Abstract

20,363. Motheral, W. B., and Happel, F. E. Sept. 28. Hulls; lubricating.-The hull is of wedge shape in plan, as shown in Fig. 1, the bottom being curved in crosssection, and substantially in the form of one side of a cone, the radius of curvature increasing regularly from the bow towards the stern. The bottom of the vessel is perforated along lines parallel with its sides, so that air may be supplied by pipes c<2> to the undersurface. Shields a<1> are fitted forward of the orifices and are of such shape that the water is deflected to each side of the opening forming a channel to receive the air. Air is supplied from a main C running the whole length of the vessel.
