2345. Marks, G. C., [Crown Cork and Seal Co.]. Feb. 6. Capsule closures. - Relates to bottle - sealing devices of the kind in which a metallic cap is used in connexion with an externally-shouldered bottle neck, a packing-washer being placed between the cap and the bottle. An annular recess 2, Fig. 1, is formed in the depending flange of the cap to receive the washer 3, the washer and cap being assembled before being applied to the bottle. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, the depending flange of the cap is continued below the recess 2. In both forms, the cap may be removed and replaced when required ; or, it may be applied so as to form a permanent sealing of the bottle by forcing the flange and washer into close contact with the bottle neck by means of a hollow cone. In a further modification, shown in Fig. 7, the lower edge 4 of the flange is turned up to grasp the lower edge of the packing-ring, which is caused to overhang the turned-up edge by the frustroconical form of the cap, and to engage the bottle shoulder.
