Window opening and closing apparatus. - A lever a, pivoted to a bracket b attached to the fixed frame of a fanlight or casement, is connected by a knuckle joint to a link d, which is jointed to a plate e on the swinging frame f. To the lower part a<3> of the lever a is pivoted a catch g, having a weighted end g<3> and a nose g<2>, which, on the fanlight being closed, swings into engagement with a shoulder h on the bracket b, and thus acts as a fastener. The lever a and catch g have perforations j, i, Fig. 4, to receive a key k on the end of a pole k<2>, and the key, in bringing the perforations into coincidence, releases the catch g, thus allowing the fanlight to be opened. As shown in dotted lines, the lever a and link d are then in line and form a stay. The catch g may be actuated by a spring, while a cord or chain may be used instead of the key and pole. A modification is described in which the catch has a vertical sliding, instead of a swinging action.
