Chain gearing.-Relates to a variable-speed gear in which, by reversing the direction of the driver, the driven part is rotated at a different speed, but in the same direction as before. The invention is shown in connection with a bicycle. The chain c passes over a wheel a, on the hub of the cycle wheel, and over an idle wheel d ; the idle wheel is geared to a wheel b, coaxial with the wheel a, and like it connected to the hub by a clutch which drives in the forward direction only, so that by back-pedalling the machine is driven forwards, but at a different speed.
