13,662. Marshall, J. T., and Wigram, R. July 30. Valve gear.-Comprises variable-expansion singleeccentric link motions, especially suitable for separate admission valves, and for engines with the cylinders close together, or for compound vertical engines with Corliss valves. In the form shown in Fig. 1, an eccentric b is mounted on the engine shaft a on the same side as the crank-pin c (shown in dotted lines), and on this eccentric is a strap d with lugs e, e<1> at diametrically-opposite points. A slot link i, suspended by a vibrating arm h, is reciprocated by the lug e through the medium of the lever f, and link g, and is rocked on its pivot h' by the lug e<1> through the medium of the link k and arm i<1>. The valve-rod j is adjustable relatively to the slot link i, either by hand or by a governor for the purpose of varying the grade of expansion. In a modification, a longer link is shown, so that the engine can be reversed, and the eccentric b is on the further side of the shaft from the crank-pin.
