Abstract

21,781. Schmidt, H. Oct. 29. Valve gear. -Comprises two forms of doubleeccentric variable-expansion link-motion. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the valve rod 10 is reciprocated by a slot-link 8 pivoted at one end to a rod 4 which is pivoted about the centre of the engine shaft 2. The link 8 is subjected to two movements, one derived through the rod 3 from the eccentric 1, and the other through the rocking arm 22, and rocking lever 15, 17, from the eccentric 12. The amplitude of the latter movement can be varied by the governor for regulating the grade of expansion through the medium of the rod 38, whereby an adjustment of the point of connection of the rod 20 with the slotted lever-arm 17 can be effected. In the other form of the invention shown in Fig. 3, the link 62 is suspended from a radius rod 52, and the variable component of the motion is derived from a variable-throw eccentric 70 controlled by a shaft governor.
