Centrifugal governors; fluid relays.-The muff a is connected by a lever c, a nut d and a screwed rod e to the valve-lever f or r of the relay, either directly as shown in Fig. 1, or through a lever and link v, f', Fig. 3, the valve levers being pivoted eccentrically to the levers i<1> connecting the relay piston k with the engine throttle. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, a spring m is interposed between the levers i' and c so that the load on the governor varies with the position of the piston k and the throttle, whereas in the apparatus shown in Fig. 3, the lever i<1> is connected resiliently with a lever t on the spindle u of which the pivot for the lever f' is eccentrically mounted, so that a movement of the piston k adjusts the valve-lever r to a small extent independently of the governor b. A cross-head n between the two parts of the spring m, and the bottom end of the lever t, are connected to dash-pot pistons. Specification 20,547/11 is referred to.
