Abstract

4800. F÷rster, R. Feb. 26. Valve gear.-The valve rod is attached at a point g<11> to a swinging slotted link h, which is rocked by an eccentric on the engine shaft a through the medium of a rod f. The latter is attached to a block, which is caused to slide in the link by means of a bent lever connected to a spur-wheel e. This wheel is rotated at twice the speed of the crank shaft, so that the valve is made to move more quickly when opening than at other parts of its travel. A similar arrangement of link may be employed for actuating cut-off or expansion valves, in which case the block is adjusted by the governor.
