Transmitting-mechanism. -The inlet valve of a steam-engine is made in two parts a<1>, a<11> attached to separate spindles s, b, which are adjusted relatively to one another by a governor. The spindles s, b, Fig. 1, are provided with screwed blocks c<1>, c<11> in engagement with left and right handed threads on a sleeve d, around which is placed a wormwheel h in connexion with the governor by a worm i, pinion n. quadrant m, and link z. In the valve-gear shown in Fig. 2, the spindles s, b are reciprocated by an arrangement of levers pivoted upon a fixed shaft 5. The adjustment of the lever 10 by the governor alters the relative position of the spindles.
