Abstract
10,580. Musgrave, W. M. May 19. Valve gear; winding and hauling engines.-Relates to valve gear for Corliss engines, winding- engines for collieries, and other motive-power engines, whereby the cut-off may be varied within the limits 0 and 7/8ths. The rocking lever F is operated by an eccentric and rod H from the engine crank shaft or other part. The adjustable tripping bars or rods G have curved surfaces X, and are released by the bowls or rollers Z mounted on the levers a. These levers are actuated by the rods c and the levers f attached to the sliding rod h, and the rollers Z are regulated to effect the cut-off through the lever mechanism from the rod p which is coupled to the governor. The usual dash-pots and snift valves are provided to close the steam valves D immediately the tripping-bars are released from the rocking lever. The exhaust valves E are independently operated from any convenient part of the engine. Applied to winding-engines, the releasing-gear for effecting the cut-off is regulated by hand, by connecting the sliding rod h to levers connected to a suitable hand-lever.
