Driving-gear for screw propellers; screw propellers ; shafts.-The screw propeller has preferably eight blades, and is mounted on a countershaft driven from the lineshafting by chain or other gear. In Fig. 1, the lineshafting is above the water level, and drives the propeller by chain gearing. It may, however, be placed below the propeller, and, if desired, the speed of the screw can be increased by introducing a second countershaft.
