Driving-arrangements for screw propellers.-In order that an ordinary boat may be readily fitted with propelling-mechanism, an opening is cut in the stern and fitted with a hollow casing a, in which the propeller shaft c is mounted. This casing a, which is open at the top, is provided with bearings for the shaft, and with a flange by which it is secured to the boat. The shaft c is driven from the engine through gear-wheels f, f <1>, as shown. The lever g for operating the propeller-feathering mechanism also passes into the casing a. In modifications, the shaft is driven by worm gearing or chain gearing and is duplicated, one shaft being fitted on each side of the keel.
