10,935. Demoulin, V. June 15. Screw propellers.-Relates to the use of the propelling-screws of air and water vessels for steering purposes. Fig. 4 shows the stern of a vessel in which the screw is driven through bevel gear by a vertical shaft b enclosed in a tube c. This tube is rotated by worm, chain, or other gear to steer or reverse the vessel. Fig. 9 shows an arrangement of two screws of opposite pitch. Such screws may rotate in a tube, to prevent the water from being thrown outwards. Propelling and steering screws, such as described, may advantageously be applied to twin boats or rafts.
