Control Of Throttle Valves Provided In The Intake System Or In The Exhaust System
(AREA)
Abstract
12,465. Welbury, W. May 20. Governing.-Relates to the governing of marine engines, and consists of means whereby the steam enclosed in the engine is prevented from causing racing after the throttle has been closed by the governor. To this end the rod A, through which the governor acts on the throttle valve, is connected to the actuating-arm of the valve, not directly, but through the medium of a spring B. After the throttle has been closed this spring permits a further movement of the rod, which is caused to effect the opening of a valve G on the steam chest. By this means the supply of steam to the engine is stopped, and the steam already in the valve-chest is caused to escape.
