Abstract
188,179. Hassall, W. Oct. 19, 1921. Gas fires.-The refractory back A of an incandescent gas fire is formed with a series of plane surfaces a, b, c. arranged at different inclinations one above another in order to direct the heat into the room. The lowermost surface a is directly heated by the radiants B which stand against ribs or bosses C. As shown in Fig. 4, the radiants mav rest on the inclined face of a block H, in order to throw the heat upwards, in which case a second series of substantially upright radiants L may be arranged above them, being heated by burners K arranged in recesses h in the back of the block H. The radiants B may be provided with holes only or mainly' on the side nearest the block H. A lip f on the front of the hollow base containing the burners diverts the intense heat at the base of the radiants from the floor. The inclined face of the block H together with the top and bottom front edges may be curved in various ways, Figs. 9 and 10 showing one form in which the face and top edge are convexly curved so that the radiants B are all of the same length, the radiants L being arranged in convex formation.
