UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HORACE M. CAWOOD, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
GAS s'rovE.
and State of California, have invented cer-V tain new and useful Improvements in Gas Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suoli as' will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention provides a stove adapted for use in heating and cooking, said stove being light, portable, and adapted to use gas as fuel, and of such construction as to vprevent a fatality in the event of the flame being extinguished from any cause, the stove being connected to aY chimney or like outlet which carries off fumes, unconsumed gas, and noxious odors, said stove also being constructed to give a maximum amount of heat for cooking or warming a room which would otherwise be uncomfortable when chilled. n
@ther objects and' advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the. nature of the invention is understood.
lVhile the drawings illustrate an embodii ment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet diiferent conditions and requirements, various changes in the forni, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification,
Figure 1 is a top plan' View of a gas stove embodying the invention,
Figure 2 is a front view thereof, and Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The numeral 1 denotes the body of the stove which is hollow Vand shallow so that the distance between the top 2 and the bottom 3 is approximately about two inches, and the breadth of the stove may be of any extent depending upon the Vcapacity and particular purpose for which the saine is"d.e-

signed. An air inlet 4 is provided in a side of the stove body and is preferably located `at the front and opposite the vent pipe 5 which is connected to the rear portion of the top 2 and which is connected to a chimney (not shown) or other outlet to admit of the fumes, unconsumed gas, and the like, escaping into the open air thereby preventing contamination of the air of the room in which the stove may be located. A burner 6 is located within the body of the stove and a fuel pipe 7 connects therewith and is provided inl its length with a valve S, said pipe leading from any source of supply such as a gas main.
The body of the stove is mounted upon a suitable base or support which as shown comprises a lower frame 9, an upper frame l0, posts 11 connecting the two frames, and dowels or pins l2 projecting upwardly from the top frame 3 and entering openings in the bottom 3 so as to prevent displacement of the body from the support or stand.
In thepreferable construction, the body consists of sheet metal and when the burner is lighted thc heatis reflected from all parts of the body and is utilized to the best possible advantage for heating and cooking,
the fumes and odors` being carried oit1 through the vent pipe '5 and the gas also finding an outlet through the vent pipe should the llame become extinguished from any cause.
lVhat is claimed is A gas stove comprising a stand, a shallow hollow body mounted upon the stand and having an inlet air opening in its front and a `vent pipe connected with the reary portion of its top, and a burner disposed within the body, the stand comprising similar upper and lower frames and connecting posts, and said stand having dowels or pins projecting from its top to enter openings s in the bottom of the stove body to hold the parts when properly assembled.
In .testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
