GAS srovn WITH REFLEC'I'ING sass.
Application filed August 16, 1920. Serial No. 403,633.
To all ac/mm it may concern:
Be it known that I. GEORGE L. Dixon, a citizen of the United States, residing at East San Gabriel, in the county of Los Angeles and State of Ca-litornia have invented a new and useful Gas Stove with Reflecting Base, oi which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a gas stove having an outlet for heat at the lower end of the casing and provided with a reflector therebeneath for the double purpose of protecting the surface on which the stove sets and reflecting the heat outwardly to the Zone surrounding the lower portion of the stove.
An object of the invention is to make pro vision for eltecting maximum heating of the zone surrounding the lower portion of the stove adjacent the floor on. which the stove rests.
Another object is to provide a reflecting base capable of being employed with various types of stores as a base therefor.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention s Figure 1 a side elevation of a. stove embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged elevation mainly in vertical mid-section ot' the lower portion of the stove shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmental sectional elevation cutting through one of the legs to show the connection between said leg and the base.
F ig. 4 is a plan View of my new reflecting base detached.
Fig. 5 is an elevation of Fig. 4; from the front or either side thereof.
Fig. 6 is a reduced plan section on line indicated by X X, Fig. 2.
There is provided a casing 1 open at its lower end as clearly indicated at 2. said casingbeing in thet'orni of smooth cylinder with the exception of top and bottom flanges 23. respectively. which are curved outwardly and downwardly and enlarged the diameter of the casing at its ends. The lower portion of the casing 1 forms a combustion chamber in which is positioned a burner 6 of any suitable type. The burner 6 is supplied with fluid. fuel through a pipe '7 provided with avalve 8.
The burner (1' is positioned innnediately beneath a hot air chamber 9 which rests upon legs 10 that in this instance are hollow, the
their inner sides so as to admit air to the bores 11 which in turn admit the air to the hot air chamber 9.
The legs 10 are provided with shoulders 13 and resting upon said shoulders is a deflector or shield 14 provided centrally with an opening 15 through which the burner 6 projects. The opening 15 is of larger diameter than the adjacent portion of the burner so that air can pass upwardly through the shield 14 adjacent the burner. At the periphery of the shield 14!: are formed downwardly and outwardly slanting deflecting: flanges 16 which aid in deflecting the heat passing downwardly through opening 2 outwardly, but it is to he understood that the flanges 16 may be omitted, if desired. The lower ends of the legs 10 are formed with inwardly extending flanges 17, one of said flanges being shown in Fig. of the drawings.
The flanges 17 rest upon the upper surface of the reflecting base 18 and may, if desired, be ailixed to said base by any suitable lastenings. In this particular instance each fastening comprises a stove bolt 19 passing through the base and through the flanges of the legs as clearly shown in Fig. 3. y
The legs lO rest upon the peripheral pertion 20 of the base 18 and said peripheral portion is flat. The more central portion oi the base rises in an upwardly reduced or conical portion 21 which, in this particular the legs to the chamber 9 and is heated. The
lower portion of the chamber 9 terms a downwardly reduced. radiator which serves to spread the flame from the burner and also to radiate heat downwardly through the opening 2 on to the base 18.
The base 18 has a highly polished mirrorlike upper surface which functions to reflect the heat outwardly andupwardly. said base absorbing practically no heat. The conical portion 21, oi the base iorius therebeneath an air space 9.3 which further protects the suri ace on which the stove rests From any heat absorbcii by said conical portion.
I claim: v having a fiat peripheral portion secured to 10 In a stove, the combination of a casing the flanges, said base also having an upopen at its lower end, a hot air chamber in Wardly reduced portion near its center.
the lower portion of the casing, a burner Signed at Los Angeles, California this beneath the hot air chamber, hollow legs 9th day of August, 1920.

the flanges, and a one piece sheet metal base j L BELIE WEAVER-
