Water paints.-A coating-composition particularly adapted for frosting glass is obtained by peptising kaolin or other body material by the addition of a sodium hydroxide or other solution containing hydroxyl ions, and adding thereto an inorganic binding-agent, such as sodium silicate. Opacifying and colouring ingredients, for example, the oxides of magnesium, aluminium, zirconium, tin, and zinc, may be added to the composition, and a small addition of amyl alcohol may be made to reduce its surface tension. The coating may be hardened after application by means of a fixing-solution consisting of zinc chloride and aluminium sulphate, or of other soluble salts of zinc, tin, magnesium, calcium, or the like, which react with the binding-agent.
