Abstract
185,646. Erwin, O. R. Sept. 21, 1921. Extincteurs.-A foam-producing extincteur of the inversion type comprises a container divided into solution-chambers and a mixing-chamber, each solution-chamber having a solution outlet and a separate pressure inlet. The container 5, Fig. 1, is divided by a baffle-plate 19 into an upper mixing-portion 20 and a lower portion. The portion 21 is subdivided into an acid chamber A and a basic chamber B, provided with solution outlets 23, 22 respectively. Equalizing pressure tubes 24, 25 communicate between the mixing- chamber 20 and the solution-chambers A, B respectively. To minimize splashing, the outlet 23 and the pipe 24 etxend upwardly into the chamber 20. The extincteur is charged through a thimble 14 and discharged through a nozzle 12. In a modified form, Fig. 3, the acid chamber A is removable and comprises a chamber 28 received by a threaded neck 30, on which is screwed a hand-wheel 31. To minimize splashing, the equalizing-pressure tube 37 in the chamber A may be closed by a gravity-stopple 40. The solution outlet from the compartment B is angularly displaced with respect to the foam outlet 38. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the connections between the bottom 43, the top 44, and the body of the extincteur are preferably lock-seam joints. The acid chamber A may be a glass jar supported by a plate 46, which has a number of apertures. A baffle-plate 47 is provided with solution outlets, and the chamber A has a partition plate 51 with a solution outlet. Filling-openings 56, 57 and equalizing-pressure tubes are provided. Another modification is show nin Fig. 6, in which the acid chamber A is closed by a manuallyoperable stop valve 70. The acid chamber A may contain a solution comprising 11 parts of aluminium sulphate to 89 parts of water, and the solution in the basic chamber B may comprise 8 parts of sodium bicarbonate, 89 parts of water, and 3 parts of foamite.
