Abstract
449,650. Apparatus for washing bottles and cans. SPRINGER, O. A., and SPRINGER, J. H., (trading as SPRINGER & RABE), 20, Dammweg. Dresden, Germany. Aug. 13, 1935, Nos. 22809 and 22810. Convention dates Aug. 15, 1934 and Feb. 9, 1935. [Class 138 (i)] A device for cleaning bottles and cans for paint, varnish, &c. comprises chambers containing spraying jets, over and between which the inverted vessels are placed, means being provided whereby cleansing liquid can be supplied to each chamber independently from a common source. In the construction shown, a chamber is divided by partitions into several compartments differing in width, the narrowest compartments being farthest away from a boiler 1 for heating lye. The lye is forced by a pump through a pipe 10 which leads through conduits 12 to spray pipes adapted to supply lye to the interior and exterior of vessels placed inverted within the compartments 19. The lye at the bottom of the chamber flows into a filtering vessel 4 over a ledge 6 provided to trap dirt, and is returned to the boiler by pipe 3. When the lye is being heated before use, the stop cock 11 is closed and the lye passes to the vessel 4 through a pipe 2, returning by the pipe 3. The spray pipes may consist of a central pipe 15 for supplying jets of liquid to the interior of a vessel and a pair of pipes 17 for spraying the exterior. A valve 13 is provided whereby liquid may be supplied either to the interior or to the exterior sprays, or shut off from both sets of sprays. In a modification the pipe 15 is replaced by four pipes, each adapted to receive a small inverted vessel. The vessels may also be cleansed by sprays issuing upwardly from pipe 14. In a further modification, the boiler 1 is dispensed with, and heating coils are provided in a lye collector below the chamber, a pump being provided for circulation of the liquid.
