Annealing-boxes.-Air is excluded from an annealing-pot in use by providing the pot a with a double lid and passing non-oxidizing gas through the space between the two lid portions b, c. The articles to be annealed, together with charcoal or other absorbent, are disposed within an inner container g which serves to protect the articles from any gas drawn past the inner lid during the cooling stage. In the form shown, the inlet e and outlet f for the gas, which may be ordinary illuminating-gas, are formed in the upper lid, but in a modification they may be formed in the walls of the pot between the two lid portions.
