Abstract

127,753. Thompson, J. S. July 2. 1918. Muffles.-An apparatus for the heat-treatment of metals, of the type comprising an inner chamber A supplied with non-oxidizing gas in which the article B to be treated is placed, and an outer surrounding chamber C to which heat is supplied, the wall of the inner chamber is of nickelchromium-iron alloy. A suitable composition is nickel 67.9 per cent, chromium 20.1 per cent, iron 10,53 per cent, silicon 1.27 per cent, and manganese 0.2 per cent. The chamber A may be heated by gas nozzles directed tangentially to the wall of the chamber, by a resistance coil, or by solid fuel.
