Abstract

184,912. Turner, W. L. June 1, 1921. Alloys.-Carbon-free ferro-molybdenum is obtained by the exothermic reaction of a mixture of molybdenite, aluminium, iron oxide, and pyrolusite or other material containing manganese oxide. The resulting molten alloy, which may contain 60 per cent of molybdenum and 1.5 per cent of manganese, may be refined by stirring with a basic flux such as a mixture of lime and fluor-spar.
