Abstract

184,086. Taylor, W. H., and Shaw, C. Sept. 16, 1921. Converting reciprocating into rotary motion.- A series of endless belt, chain, &c., conveyers is driven continuously in one dircetion by one or more rotary members actuated by one or more reciprocating or oscillating members alternately pulled forward and released. The shaft 8 of the driving drum 33 of each section of the conveyer has a flywheel at one end and a gear 11 embodying a free-wheel clutch at the other. The gear 11 meshes with a rack 13 formed on a hollow box frame 12 which is slidably mounted on rollers 14. Each frame is pulled in one direction by a common rope 23 and retracted by a spring 19. In a modification two racks are formed on the frame and two gears are provided so that an impulse is transmitted to the shaft during each stroke.
