Abstract
1,109,092. Linkwork; controlling positive clutches; conveying rotary motion. 21 Dec., 1964 [20 Sept., 1963], No. 37082/63. Headings F2C, F2K, F2L and F2Q. A reduction drive comprises a continuously rotated input shaft 1 driving means for reciprocating the chains 3 of at least two chain and block tackles 3-6 the other ends of which are connected by adjustable length links 6 to crankpins 7b of a shaft 7 connected by a one-way clutch to an output shaft (not shown). Two sprockets 2, each with one end of a respective chain 3 secured thereto, freely rotatable on the shaft 1 are alternately clutched thereto by coupled dog clutches 8 actuated by face cams 9 on a gear 11 driven by a pinion 12 secured to shaft 1. Friction gearing 19 coupling the sprockets 2 for opposite rotation. The cyclic action of clutches 8 causes the links 6 to be pulled alternately to oscillate the shaft 7. To smooth the torque on shaft 7, a frame 16 carrying the shaft 1, the sprockets 4 of the chain and block tackles, and the cam mechanism, is oscillated vertically by a cam 17 driven from the shaft 7. Further pairs of chain and block tackles may be added.
