Abstract
183,885. Trostel, A. O. Feb. 26, 1921. Fibres, treating.-To obtain a product suitable for the purposes of spinning, felting and shrinking under the action of heat, animal fibres are immersed in the cold for about two weeks in a weak alkaline bath. The bath may contain less than 0.5 per cent alkali composed of milk of lime in admixture with alkali sulphide. The fibres, preferably washed to remove the alkali and deposited impurities and then further treated in a dilute acid bath for about 24 hours, are finally washed and dried at a temperature less than 120‹ F. The product may be further heated for fire-proofing or other purposes with mineralizing- agents such as chrome salts, a suitable bath comprising a salt solution containing 1.6 per cent of Cr2O3 by weight and having a basicity equivalent to one hydroxyl radical. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 4144/79.
