Abstract
290,154. Tandler, R. May 7, 1927, [Convention date]. Fibres, obtaining; retting.-Fibres are obtained from animal skins, intestines and bladders, particularly the skins of fishes. The material is softened, treated with milk of lime, or with sodium hydrate or sulphate, as in tanning, pickled in a 20 per cent solution of cooking salt, aluminium sulphate or sodium sulphate to which 10 per cent of hydrochloric or sulphuric acid is added, then milled and mashed. A two-bath chromization follows, then treatment with fat. The skins &c. so treated are split by machine or by hand and subjected to carding, tearing or brushing and a fibre wool is obtained which may be worked in known manner into yarn, thread, web, felt and the like.
