Abstract

508,136. Depositing rubber from latex. INTERNATIONAL LATEX PROCESSES, Ltd. June 9, 1938, No. 17133. Convention date, June 19, 1937. [Class 70] Rubber is deposited from latex on fibres free from coagulant, by adding to the latex a coagulant and stabilizing agent, so that the latex is stable at the temperature of treatment in the absence of fibres, but unstable in the presence of the fibre to be treated, and placing the fibre in contact with a small quantity of such latex. The bringing of the latex into the isoelectric zone as described in Specification 508,137 is disclaimed. The fibres may be introduced into a bath of the latex, and squeezed until they contain 50-200 per cent of their weight of latex. The treatment may be carried out at room or elevated temperature. Numerous examples are given in the Specification of which the following is typical. A latex mix consisting of 100 parts of rubber as 60 per cent latex, 2 parts of potassium hydroxide, 0À4 parts of glue, 1À25 parts of "Aquarex D " (stabilizer), 0À5 mercaptobenzothiazole, 4 parts of casein, 2 parts of zinc oxide, 0À5 parts of " BLE," (antioxidant, condensation product of acetone and diphenylamine), diluted with water to 40 per cent solids content, was made into a treating bath by adding to 10 parts by weight of the solids, 3 parts of " Sulphanol " (R.T.M., a sulphated fatty alcohol stabilizer) 2À7 parts of formic acid, and 84À3 parts of water. Wool flannel immersed for 60 minutes at room temperature increased in weight by 12À2 per cent by deposition of solids from the bath.
