Abstract

The spinning of vegetable, artificial and mineral fibres is facilitated by treating the fibres with a solution of sericine. For the treatment there is used a solution of sericine in an alkali, preferably a soap, conveniently boiled-off liquor; and to the solution an alkali sulphocyanide may be added, and also a substance such as Irish moss in the case of slippery fibres such as kapok. The alkali sulphocyanide may be applied as a separate treatment. An addition of formaldehyde may be added to the last bath. After treatment, the fibres are dried. Fibres so coated and weighted do not exhibit electrical effects, and they are free from "fly" in spinning and from "shedding" when spun. Specification 481,441 is referred to.
