Abstract
181,817. Gledhill, W. March 19, 1921. Letting-off warps. - In a loom weighting- motion having spring-controlled levers, the normal tension on the warp threads is relieved at intervals by one or more cam or tappet actuated levers. which take or partly take the weight of one or more springs off the warps and allow of it to come on again as required. Springs A, A<1> Fig. 1, adjusted by a hand-wheel a<1>, Figs. 1 and 3, bear on a bar C, which tensions chains or ropes D passed around ruffles e of a warp beam E. The ends of the leaf-spring A are connected to arms b rigidly fixed on a shaft b<1>, which when rocked by a tappet-actuated lever B, takes the pressure of the spring ends off the bar C. The bar may be free to rise and fall on guides. The lever B is timed to relieve the tension during the opening of the shed and to restore it when the shed is closed. Spring-controlled hooks d<1> turn the beam forward a little when the shed is opened. In turning the beam back or for removing it, the tension is wholly removed by operating a hand-lever F, Fig. 4, which turns a crank in the chain circuit to slacken the chain; or each spring may be provided with a lever for temporarily compressing it. Instead of a single bar C, two separate bars may be used, one for each ruffle, and such bars may be pivoted together or mounted on separate pivots at their inner ends.
