Abstract

196,884. Soc. Renard FrÞre et Fils. April 26, 1922, [Convention date]. Loom beat-up motions; reeds; shuttle-races; lays; weft, deflecting for slackening.-After a weft z, Fig. 6, has been inserted by the shuttle. the shed closes lightly. A number of undulators or rocking members 13, 8, 6 are then turned in succession about an axle 1 passing through holes in the reed dents 2, 4 so as to move between projections 9 on the reed dents, the weft being thus caused to assume an undulated form and the extra length necessary to produce this form being withdrawn from the shuttle. The undulators are rocked in succession by means of a member 18, 19, Fig. 7a, with an inclined part 19 mounted on an eye on a sliding carriage, which is moved from one end to the other of the batten by a chain or rope or otherwise. When the sliding carriage moves in one direction, rollers 20, Figs. 6 and 7<a>, on the member 18, 19 mount two pivoted spring- controlled tongues or points 52 forming extensions of rails 14, 15 on the batten, and the member slides on these rails so as to act on the rounded parts 8 of the undulators and rock these in succession. The member finally falls through apertures in the rails, and on its return movement displaces the tongues 52. The undulators have extensions 13 actuated bv a cam-controlled rod 22 to cause them positively to resume their non-working position in due course. The reed comprises stamped steel sheets 2, 4 reinforced by riveted plates 3 and with notches 5 for engaging their supports. The reed finally beats up the undulated wefts. A modification is described wherein the weft is formed into an undulated shape by means of a series of rocking undulators and a series of rocking separators actuated by means of cam links on an endless chain. The reed is held in position on the batten by a steel member and set screw. A member on the batten is provided with cast-iron supports connected by rods and screws and bolts to the steel member, these rods serving as a shuttle race. The weaving is stopped during the operation of the undulators and is then re-started. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the sliding carriage may be operated by a cam or lever. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
