F. VOLECH WARP TENSIONING DEVICE FOR LOOMS Filed Sept 17, 1925 l i j 0) //7 Ken/0r.-
Patented Feb. 22, 1927.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WARB-TENSIONING DEVICE FOR! LOOMS.
Application filed September 17, 1925, Serial No. 56,962, and in Czechoslovakia January 19, 1925.
This invention relates to a loom for weaving handkerchiefs and the like and in which 'means are provided for stopping the shedding motion so that several picks can be allotted to a single shed.
The object of the invention is to provide a simpleniechanism for operating, by means of the shedding motion, the vibratory back bearer ofthe loom whereby the tension of the warp is equalized. and the invention consists in the provision of a cam which participates in the movements of the shedding eccentrics and which co-operates with levers for vibrating the back bearer and for preventing overthrow of the eccentrics.
Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings rep resents a side view of the device, and
Fig. 2, a view of the back-bearer on an enlarged scale.
Fig. 4, a cross-section of the same.
The warp 3 is led from the beam 2 over the back-bearer 4 to the healds 6 and thence, through the reed to the breast beam '7. 'The lay 8 is connected by means of a rod 9 to a. crank shaft 10 and is rocked by the latter for beating up. The heald s 6 are controlled by eccentrics 12 and 13 which are mounted on a hollow shaft 11. The latter is loosely arranged on the picking shaft 11 and is normally coupled to the same by means of a clutch 19. For equalizing the tension of the warp during the opening and closing of the shed. the back-bearer 4 is vibrated, as best shown in Fig. 9. For this purpose it is held in the machine frame 1 by a rock shaft 1.8 to which is also'secured a lever 17. The
Fig. 3 is a side view of the picking shaft,
free end of the latter is coupled by means of 'a pin-and-slot connection to the free end of 40 a lever 15 which rocks about a shaft 16. The lever 15 is supported on a cam 14 which is secured to the shaft 11 so as to rotate in unison with the eccentrics 12 and 13. When the shed is opened by the eccentrics. the back-bearer 4 is lowered by the cam so as to prevent increase in the warp tension. When the clutch 19 is disengaged from the shaft 11, the shedding ceases and so does the movement of the back-bearer.
By its engagement with the lever 15, as shown by full lines in Fig. 1. the cam 14 serves the additional purpose of preventing overthrow of the eccentrics, it being formed with flattened faces for the purpose.
It is possible. to simplify the arrangement by letting the lever 17 rest direct on the cam .14, the lever 15 being omitted.
I claim:
In a loom of the character described, the combination with a back-bearer adapted to be vibrated for equalizing the warptension duringthe shedding of a picking shaft, a hollow shedding shaft arranged loosely on said picking shaft, a clutch for coupling the picking shaft to the shedding shaft so as to impart motion to the latter, a lever supported by said cam, and a'lever secured to the back-bearer and coupled to said afore-mentioned lever for vibrating the back-bearer 79 under the influence of said cam, the cam being formed with flattened faces whereby it cooperates-with said levers for preventing overthrow of. the shedding shaft.
