Junction-boxes.-A cable junction-box of the kind filled with sealing compound comprises one or more glands 2 each having chambers 3, adapted to be filled with sealing composition, through which the cable ends pass to terminals in the box, the glands having conical ends upon which armouring 13 0f the cables is clamped by suitable clamping plates 14. The glands 2 mav be integral with or separate from the box 1, and the terminals and cable ends may be separated in the box by walls projecting from an insulating base 20. The box may be of the split-body type or of the kind provided with covers 11. A box with integral sealing glands is cast without cable holes 8, 9, these being drilled as required in the gland projections. Internal recesses adjacent to the projections 2 may be provided in the box to give extra space for sealing compound while the cables enter the box. The cover may he formed as a support for a lamp or fitting 9. In a form specially suited for mining work the glands are separate, being secured either in tapped holes in the box sides or to attachment flanges by screws; the armour clamp in these cases may be attached by studs or bolts to lugs or attachment flanges on the gland. These operations and the filling of the glands with sealing compound may take place above ground.
