Abstract

178,900. Rogers, F. H., (Johnson Automobile Lock Co.). Jan. 17, 1921. Securing reserve tyres on vehicles.-A spare tyre and rim 3, 4 are secured upon a rim support 2 upon a motor-vehicle by means of a cable comprising a strap 20 enclosed in a flexible armouring, one end 25 of the cable being arranged to abut against the lower end of an opening 7 in a lock block 5 and the other end adapted to be engaged with an opening 6 in the block and to be there retained by a spring-pressed bolt 15. The armouring consists of a number of similar - rounded and recessed parts 30, 27 threaded upon the strap, the ends of the strap being passed into split blocks 22, 35, which are driven into end parts 23, 35, respectively and covered by discs 24, 37. The bolt 15 is bevelled so that the cable can be pushed into the opening 6 past the bolt; but the cable cannot be withdrawn until the bolt has been retracted by the use of a key which is inserted into a casing 9 to operate a pin 13 upon the crank plate 12 of a rotatable barrel 10, the pin 13 bearing upon a lug 14 on the bolt.
