Securing reserve tyres on vehicles.-A spare tyre or the like is secured to its holder by an armoured cable adapted to be fitted tightly round the tyre and holder and locked in this position by a locking-device comprising a block to which one end of the cable is secured, and having an aperture through which passes the other end. Fig. 2 shows the tyre 1 held in a holder 2 by means of the device. The cable consist of hard flexible steel strands 6 carrying steel rings 9 which can articulate freely with each other, the rings having shoulders 18. The ends of the cable have terminals 8 and 13. The terminal 13 is flanged to fit into a recess 14 in the block 10 when the cable is threaded through the hole 11. The cable can then be passed round the tyre and the end 8 passed into the hole 12 in the block. A bevelled spring-pressed pawl 15 engages the bevelled shoulders 18 so that it permits the tightening of the cable round the tyre by pulling the end 8, but prevents movement of the cable in the opposite direction. To release the cable, a pin 22 on an arm 21 on the cylinder of a pin-tumbler lock 19 engages a flange 23 on the pawl 15, when turned by a key, releasing the pawl from the cable and allowing the tyre to be removed. The locking-means is housed in the block 10. A recess 30 in the flange 23 releasably holds the pin 22 when the locking-pawl 15 is drawn back to retain the pawl 15 in this position against the action of the spring 16, to facilitate removal of the tyre.
