Abstract

175,837. Crossley, Sir K. I., and Webb, W. Le P. Dec. 20, 1920. Drawings to Specification. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-In engines wherein the combustion chamber communicates with the cylinder through a constricted passage, fuel is sprayed by two nozzles placed on opposite sides of the combustion chamber, each having two or more orifices, arranged in such a manner that the centre-line of the spray from any one orifice in no place cuts that from any other orifice, thus ensuring better distribution of the fuel throughout the combustion chamber. Different grades of fuel may be sprayed by the two nozzles to assist ignition, and an unjacketed hot-spot may be provided on to which some of the fuel is sprayed, to facilitate vaporization and ignition. According to the Provisional Specification, slits may take the place of the orifices in the spraying- nozzles.
