341,638. Oil engines. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG - NURNBERG AKT.-GES., 7, Stadtbachstrasse, Augsburg, Germany. Nov. 27, 1929, No. 36380. Convention date, Dec. 17, 1928. [Class 7 (iii).] One or more auxiliary chambers b, bl are connected by one or more narrow passages to the side of the combustion chamber c of a compression-ignition engine, the fuel nozzle or nozzles a being so arranged that no fuel is directly injected into the chambers. The fuel nozzle or nozzles may be located at the side of the combustion chamber. A proportion of the combustion air is forced into the auxiliary chambers during compression, so that during the fuel injection, combustion takes place with a reduced quantity of air. The return of the air from the auxiliary chambers is facilitated by the ignition of a small amount of fuel which enters the chambers with the air forced therein during the last portion of the compression stroke. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the injectors may be so arranged relative to the auxiliary chambers as to spray a portion of the fuel directly thereinto. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
